Olive Ridley Turtle, Rescued from Fisherman’s Net

A turtle, trapped in the fisherman’s net and was trying to come out, but the turtle has been rescued by Mr. Ajay Kumar and his colleagues about 12:00 noon at the Reliance Jetty (Hazira Plant, Surat). Mr. Mayank Devashrayee, well wisher of Nature Club Surat, working in Reliance, informed us about it at 12:30 pm. We quickly reached there and identify the turtle. It was Olive Ridley Turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea), is also known as Pacific Ridley.

It was 59 centimeter in length (average length is 70cm) and 47 centimeter in width. As we informed by the person that it was pulling the fisherman’s net by the sea shore side, it was healthy and strong.

We successfully convinced the Captain R. K. Singh of the shipping department of Reliance industry (Hazira plant, Surat) by aware him the environmental importance of this turtle and also to release it into its natural habitat.

Viral Prajapati and Darshan Jardosh (Volunteer of Nature Club Surat) took it to the Suhali beach and successfully released it in the sea with Mr. Ajay Kumar and his colleagues at 15:22.
