Activities July 2010
Snake Awareness Program
As
snakes are centre of attraction, most favorite activity of our club is Snake
Awareness Program. This month club has done 12 Snake Awareness Program in
different Schools of Surat which had covered 4065 students. Our volunteers had
explained the identification of snake, first aid for victim and made aware them
of blind believes about snakes.
Monsoon Camp - Dangs
In
July, monsoon was on its peak and club has done three monsoon camps in the Dang
Forest. 60 participants had participated in this camp.
Tree
Plantation:
In M.Sc., IT Department of VNSGU, Club had done plantation of 200 saplings of 5
different spices which attract birds. 60 students had participated in this
program.
On
Mass Plantation, organized by Forest Department on 31st July 2010
Club has participated and planted 200 trees at Gavier.
Snake Awareness and Vulture Conservation Program : Nature Club Surat
and Gurukrupa Sevamay Trust, Vyara has jointly organized snake show and film
show in 5 schools of Tapi district. In snake show we have explain about snake
identification, first aid, blind believes, characteristics etc., and also shown
them film on Vulture Conservation and made aware them about the present
situation of Vulture.
Butterfly
Watching Program : On 25th July 2010 Club had arranged Butterfly
Watching Program at Eco Farm. 21 Participants had participated and had observed
around 24 species of butterfly. This Program was conducted by Saurabh Desai,
Volunteer of Nature Club Surat.
Natural History Museum
Visit :
Around 90 number of tiny tots of ‘Star Kids’ had visited Club’s Natural History
Museum on 29th July 2010.
Animal Welfare Activity
: In July 2010, Nature Club Surat has received total 153 calls.
In this 153 calls 36 injured
Birds, 13 Mammals and 106 Reptiles were rescued.
- During July our rescue team
had rescued Black & Yellow Sea snake from Dumas sea shore. This is a
first record from Surat.

World Bio Diversity
Day Celebration
NATURE
CLUB SURAT celebrated World Biodiversity Day on 22 May 2010 at Vulture
feeding site Hazira, Surat.
Conservator of
forest Surat Mr.D.B.Ande, DCF Mr.Prajapati and various media
representatives visited the vulture feeding site at Hazira. Today there
were about 75 vultures at 7:30am.
Mr.Ande saw the road being made by L&T and Nature Club
Surat to the feeding site. Mr.Ande informed us that they have given
proposal to make fencing in 6
hectares
area to protect the feeding site (We sincerely hope that the fencing is
made at the earliest as dog population over here has
started increasing,
which disturbs the vultures). N.C.S's three wheeler vehicle was
appreciated by media representatives.
